Violins accepts instruments for Sale on a
Consignment bases. What this means is that at our discretion,
we will accept for sale instruments that have been
sold either by us or by another shop. For this
service, on instruments that we have previously
sold, we will charge a 20% commission for the sale
and deduct from the original sales price any
devaluation due to market changes, physical
condition and repairs that are needed. It is
impossible to say when an instrument will sell. We
are at the mercy of the person that comes in through
the door. It is no different for consignment
instruments as with our own stock. Some
instruments sell in a
matter of days where others might sit for years. Instruments
that were not originally sold by us may be of
interest. In general, for these we try to
allow at least 70% of what we expect to sell
something for in the end. Remember, unlike if
you were to sell it on your own, we have a huge
overhead, we must guarantee and warrantee our sales
and take them back in trade. We cannot pay you back
for another shops profit. We also generally do
the repairs needed upfront and unless you pick up
the instrument that cost comes out of our pocket.
Sometimes we might try 5 sets of strings on an
instrument before we find the one that suits it
best. When
a consignment instrument is accepted for sale we
will determine it's value, decide on a selling
price, deduct the commission and the repair costs
and the remaining balance will be the net amount you
will receive when sold. A consignment contract will
be issued. We
can modify our policy: We reserve the right to
cancel or modify this policy at any time. All prior contracts
will remain valid as written. Limitations
and terms:
This policy applies to our instruments only.
Don't'
make assumptions:
Please inquire prior to bringing in an item
for consignment. Not
Part of the Purchase Agreement
Unlike
our trade in policy, this
policy is not part of our purchase agreement. We
can exercise our right to exclude any instrument at
any time from this program. All aspects are
entirely at our discretion.
